12 Days of #Blogmas – Day 4

On the fourth day of #Blogmas my true love gave to me… 4 Christmas Carols #lalalala

On my dads family side there is over 100 family members. When we get together for Christmas we love to sing Christmas carols. We even go on a sleigh ride at my parents family home and sing Christmas carols to the neighbours that are home aka have their lights on (see below picture).

Here are my four favourite Christmas Carols:

1. We Wish you a Merry Christmas – This is literally the only song that we sing on our sleigh rides! It must be my mother’s favourite or perhaps the easiest one to sing.

2. …Oh wait – We also sing Joy to the World (I have been corrected). We sing both Joy to the World and then we sing We Wish you a Merry Christmas! Obviously one song to carol at a neighbours home is too short (again sayeth my mother).

3. What Child is This – This is one of my favourites because I know how to play this song on the piano! It’s easy to play and I enjoy the words.

4. Hark the Herald Angels Sing – If I had to sing a Christmas carol over and over again I believe that this one would be it. Perhaps because the tone flows up and down, the song seems to get louder than quieter, or maybe because of the message. But by the time you’ve sung it (because it’s so long) you feel like you’ve accomplished singing Christmas carols for the year! (CHECK! Off the list)

“Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!”
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th’ angelic host proclaim,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem.”
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!”

Christ, by highest heav’n adored:
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of the favored one.
Veil’d in flesh, the Godhead see;
Hail, th’incarnate Deity:
Pleased, as man, with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel!
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!”

Hail! the heav’n born Prince of peace!
Hail! the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die:
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!”
