On the 9th day of #Blogmas my true love gave to me… 9 Holiday Movies!!!!

Saying that I enjoy Christmas movies when December rolls around would be a complete understatement. We have a section in our movies that is all Christmas movies. I LOVE THEM! Like the classics. However I haven’t watched “It’s a Wonderful Life” this year yet…. But it’s still early! That one is more of a “week before Christmas” / “while I’m wrapping last minute Christmas purchases” type of show.

First up: A Garfield Christmas 

“Jon Arbuckle: The whole family’s gonna be there: Dad, Mom, and Grandma, and Doc Boy…

Garfield: And Good Boy, Bad Boy, Oh Boy, Attaboy…

Jon Arbuckle: Come on, Garfield, we have a busy day ahead of us!”

 

“Jon Arbuckle: Doc Boy, how’s my favorite brother?

Doc Boy: Don’t call me Doc Boy. You’ve probably forgotten I’m your ONLY brother.”

 

“Dad: [reading “Binky: The Clown Who Saved Christmas”] Once upon a time, there was a clown named Binky, who loved children. Every time Binky saw children, he would say, “Hey, kids!”

Jon Arbuckle: No, no, no, no, no, Dad! Read it with more emotion!

Doc Boy: Yeah, yeah! An-an-and why don’t you say it like Binky says it?

Dad: [Clears throat] Every time Binky saw children, he would say, “HEEEEEEEEY, KIIIIIIIIDS!”

[Odie licks Dad to indicate his approval]

Dad: [annoyed] Cut that out!”

I laugh and laugh and laugh when I watch this show. It starts off so fast so don’t press play and go grab something. Get your poppycock, gingersnaps or whatever Christmas goodies ready and laugh the next (under 45 minutes away!) Second: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

“Mrs. Claus: Eat, Papa, eat.”

“Hermey: Hey, what do you say we both be independent together, huh?”

“Santa Claus: [singing] Jingle, jingle, jingle / You will hear my sleigh bells ring / I am old Kris Kringle / I’m the king of jing-a-ling.”

I can remember being super excited when I’d come home from school and turn on CBC ready for all these classic Christmas shows! This was one of those shows we always watched.

 

Third: Frosty the Snowman

“Santa Claus: Now you go home and write “I am very sorry for what I did to Frosty” a hundred zillion times. And then maybe – just maybe, mind you – you’ll find something in your stocking tomorrow morning.

The Magician: Like – a new hat, maybe? Ohh, yes, sir! Goodbye, everyone! Sorry to lose and run, but I’ve got to get busy writing, busy, busy, busy!”

 

“Karen: You’ve got to excuse him, sir. You see, he just came to life, and he doesn’t know much about such things.

Traffic Cop: Oh, well, okay, if he just came to life.

[blows whistle]

Traffic Cop: Move along!

[to himself after Frosty and the kids leave]

Traffic Cop: That silly snowman. Once they come to life, they don’t know nothin’.

[blows his whistle squeakily]

Traffic Cop: Come to life?

[accidentally swallows his whistle]”

 

This was another one of those CBC specials on TV close to Christmas that we watched as kids. Read 8 facts about Frosty the Snowman here. This is by no means my favourite Christmas show however it seems to be embedded on my brain to watch every Christmas. (Note: I absolutely do not support smoking in any way)

 

 

Fourth: Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! “And he, he himself…the Grinch…carved the roast-beast!”

My daughter LOVES watching the Grinch that Stole Christmas! She doesn’t have a specific favourite character but enjoys it. She favours the human version of the Grinch with Jim Carey. My 2 year old daughter often reminds me of Cindy Lou Who!

“Then he got an idea! An awful idea! THE GRINCH GOT A WONDERFUL, AWFUL IDEA!”

 

Some differences between the Dr. Seuss book and the cartoon movie:

“The Similarities:
– It’s almost word for word from the book
– His heart still grows three sizes
– The animation stays true to the book

The Differences:
– The thread the Grinch uses to tie an antler on Max is black in the movie, red in the book
– The Grinch is even more mean in the movie
– There are additional lines, and songs”

 

Fifth: Elf  “Smiling’s my Favourite” “Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color?”

I feel like when the movie came out it literally came out of no where and it’s crazy good! I rather enjoy the beginning and the story line, even him working in the store. The two parts that I think “wreck” the movie is when 1) he gets “drunk” in the mailroom. I find that this part has no place for the movie and it could do without it and 2) when Santa’s sleigh “breakdown” in central park. I totally think that they lost momentum on that and could have picked a different “help Santa” scene.

“You did it! Congratulations! World’s best cup of coffee! Great job, everybody! It’s great to be here.” I feel like I’ve said this A LOT throughout my life. Both in sarcasm and in truth.

 

Six: Home Alone (1 and 2!)

Absolutely I believe that every child that watched this movie went and got a “mission plan” right after watching it because they felt that if this were to ever happened to them they would also be prepared.

Fun Fact- In Home Alone 2 there are the Twin Towers that Kevin takes pictures from. Can’t view those two anymore.

Fun Fact 2 – Also in Home Alone 2 President Trump is found in this movie in the Crown Plaza hotel lobby (26 minutes in) wearing his iconic suite and red tie #shocker

 

Seven: The Santa Clause (1, 2 and 3!)

Read 7 Totally Mind Blowing Facts About The Santa Clause here! Tim Allen almost didn’t make the part but i’m so glad he did!

When I was younger I really really enjoyed the Santa Clause. As I got older re-watching this one I feel that it has a lot of adult content to it. The family is divorced, there are court orders involved and the boy almost never sees his dad again. It can be very emotional for those that have gone through a family split so I don’t know if I would recommend it, even though I do like this one (as a whole).

Santa has to find a wife. Love it! I was super pumped when they came out with a Santa Clause 2 and was absolutely hoping for a third!

My oldest daughter loves watching the Santa Clause 3. It’s her favourite but I have no idea why! I quite enjoy it as well but she will pick this one first out of this list!

 

Eight: Christmas with the KRANKS

I laugh a lot watching Christmas with the Kranks! The humour is just like mine. I have many favourite quotes in this one. If you haven’t ever watched it then I VERY MUCH recommend watching Christmas with the Kranks this Christmas.

“Nora Krank: You forgot the white chocolate!

Luther Krank: They didn’t have any.

Nora Krank: Did you talk to Rex?

Luther Krank: Who’s Rex?

Nora Krank: The butcher.

Luther Krank: …as odd as it sounds, I didn’t think to ask the butcher where the chocolate was!”

 

“Luther: We kind of look like uncooked chicken. Tanning Lady: (laughing) You look like a corps!”

 

“Spike: Are you sure this isn’t illegal? Luther: Are you a cop?!”

 

 

Nine: Barbie A Perfect Christmas

The last few years we really started watching this one. It’s obviously not a “Christmas Classic” but we really enjoy it! The best parts have to be the songs “Perfect Christmas” and then the music video at the end! If you have a daughter I hope you pick up Barbie a Perfect Christmas! It’s worth it!
